earnph follows the classic Filipino rules for Tongits — the same ones you played growing up, not some watered-down international version. Here's a quick refresher on how the game works on our platform:
The game is played with three players using a standard 52-card deck. Each player is dealt 12 cards — except the first player (mano) who gets 13. The objective is to be the first to meld all your cards into valid combinations, or to have the lowest total point value in your hand when the draw pile runs out.
On each turn, a player draws one card from the central pile or takes the top discard, then discards a card. You can lay down melds — three or four of a kind (set), or three or more cards of the same suit in sequence (run). Once you've melded all 13 cards, you declare "Tongits!" and win immediately.
The scoring system on earnph converts hand totals to peso stakes — the platform handles all the arithmetic automatically so you can focus entirely on your hand and strategy.
A quick walkthrough of each phase of the game.
Choose a table on earnph based on your preferred buy-in level. Seats fill up fast on popular tables — if your first choice is full, there's always another table ready to go.
The mano (first player) receives 13 cards; the other two players each receive 12. The remaining cards form the central draw pile, with one card flipped face-up to start the discard pile.
On your turn, draw one card (from the pile or the discard), lay down any valid melds you want, then discard one card. You can also add cards to melds already on the table (sagasa).
Any player who has laid down at least one meld can call a fight on an opponent's discard, forcing a showdown. The player with the lowest unmelded hand total wins the pot.
If you meld all your cards in hand, shout "Tongits!" — you win instantly, and the other players pay you based on the value of cards remaining in their hands.
If the draw pile runs out before anyone declares Tongits, all players compare their unmelded totals. The player with the lowest total wins the round on earnph's platform.
